More practical, more compatible. Hornetdrive 4.5 is available.

Good news for Hornetdrive users: Hornetsecurity has treated its fully encrypted cloud storage with a new update. The latest version Hornetdrive 4.5 has many new features in store, especially when it comes to compatibility and user experience. Here are some of them in detail.

Users of Mac OS version 10.13 (High Sierra) will benefit from one of the new features in particular. With this update, Hornetdrive now supports Apple’s new file system APFS, which has replaced the outdated HFS+. So you can use Hornetdrive like before on your brand-new iMac od MacBook, too.

Export of log files facilitates data analysis

Another practical feature increases Hornetdrive’s user friendliness. Version 4.5 offers a new export and filter function. This facilitates users to keep an overview on all events taking place. Every activity is logged in a so-called “event log file”, which can contain a high number of data. With the new export and filter functionality, these data can be downloaded easily as a CSV file and thus filtered and analyzed outside of Hornetdrive.

Always stay up to date

Also, the new notification feature helps users react and adapt to recent activities within Hornetdrive. This functionality can be found under “Settings” and “Notifications”. There they can determine whether to receive pop-up or email notifications for certain events like file conflicts, new file versions, the renaming of folders or new drive members.

The new Hornetdrive version 4.5 can be downloaded cost-free from now on for all Windows, Mac OS X and Linux versions on our website. Android and iOS users can get their latest version in the play store or app store.
Hornetsecurity acquires Avira’s spam filter business

Hornetsecurity acquires Avira’s spam filter business

German customers of Avira Managed E-Mail Security and Cleanport customers located in the Belgium, Netherlands & Luxemburg (BeNeLux) regions are switching to the Hornetsecurity Managed Spamfilter Service   Hornetsecurity began the transition of Avira spam filter business customers today. Avira is a German vendor and highly respected industry player in the arena of anti-virus software solutions. Hornetsecurity is now further extending their leading European market position in the managed security services with this merger. Based on their company strategy moving forward, Avira has chosen to stop selling its cloud email security solution and focus on their core business of commercial antivirus products for business customers.   Avira and Clearport customers have started their changeover to Hornetsecurity’s Managed Spamfilter Service. This switch is a huge win for these customers as they now have access to Hornetsecurity’s market-leading spam detection rates and the ability to utilize the full-solution portfolio from the cloud security experts from Hannover, Germany.
To guarantee a smooth transition, Avira and Hornetsecurity have collaborated to work out the details of the technical and organizational preparations needed to move the process forward quickly and efficiently. All effected resellers were informed of the platform change before Christmas. These reseller partners were invited to participate in cost-free training webinars and then migrated automatically to Hornetsecurity’s services.
This  will significantly ease the conversion process for all partners and customers and they will be able to immediately start benefiting from the Hornetsecurity services.   “By taking over Cleanport and Avira Managed E-Mail Security, we made a huge step towards our goal to become the leading European provider of cloud-based email security solutions”, said Daniel Blank, CEO of Hornetsecurity. “Especially in the BeNeLux countries we will become a leading provider with this deal. Together with all new resellers we will be able to continuously increase our market share.”   „With Hornetsecurity we found a company, where we can be sure that our existing Cleanport and Avira Managed E-Mail Security partners and customers will be in very good hands”, adds Christian Milde, Vice President Strategic Alliances at Avira.   The existing sales partners of Avira services will also benefit from this new collaboration by participating in Hornetsecurity’s multilevel partner program. The program features extensive support for all sales, marketing, and technical support activities as well as active partner management that provides a mutual benefit for both sides. The highly developed product portfolio of Hornetsecurity also offers many new sales opportunities for these newly acquired reseller partners.   Hornetsecurity’s Managed Spamfilter Service not only protects the email traffic but secures it at the same time by utilizing a guaranteed 99.9% spam recognition rate and 99.99% virus recognition rate. Hornetsecurity has a market-leading spam filter solution featuring an intuitive user interface which is carefully designed to be simple and easy for administrators. Hornetsecurity strikes again – distribution contract with ADN in the bag

Hornetsecurity has closed another strategic partnership with a value-added distributor.

ADN Advanced Digital Network Distribution GmbH from Bochum, Germany has been founded in 1994 and specializes in the distribution of cloud services, technologies and solutions that require intensive consulting. With this cooperation, Hornetsecurity dramatically increases its reach, as ADN contains a network of 6.000 partners and clients.

The Hornetsecurity services can be purchased through ADN as of now. The value-added distributor provides more than 30 employees that have been trained and certified on the vendor solutions to support resellers with their high competence.

“From the start ADN focused on our partnership with enthusiasm and engagement. Such a huge team of sales-related and technical specialists is a true added-value for ADN resellers”, says Daniel Blank, CEO of Hornetsecurity. “Our services reduce complexity and offer resellers the opportunity to differentiate from their competitors. I am convinced that ADN is the perfect partner to push exactly these topics and to explore the enormous growth potential in cloud security.” “Our experience is that companies, when it comes to processing emails in the cloud and long-term storage of emails, lay a strong emphasis on data security and compliance. Organizations also have high expectations on spam filtering and protection from ransomware and deceiving emails like CEO fraud“, says Dirk Wolbeck, team leader networking & security at ADN. Administrate email signatures via Active Directory

Administrate email signatures via Active Directory

Keep individual data automatically up-to-date with Advanced Email Signature and Disclaimer from Hornetsecurity

Hannover, Germany, August 2, 2017 – Signature, boilerplate, disclaimer – the end of a text in emails has different names. But no matter what you call these text-snippets: they consist of static components like general company data and dynamic components, such as the contact details of the sender. Advanced Email Signature and Disclaimer from Hornetsecurity now offers a simple and centralized administration of both static and dynamic content across the whole company. For this, the solution directly accesses data from a company’s Active Directory in order to use the most up-to-date personal data at all times. This greatly facilitates the work of IT administrators while also ensuring a consistent appearance in the email signature for enterprises.
Advanced Email Signature and Disclaimer

The web interface allows fast, uncomplicated creation of signatures and disclaimers (click to enlarge).

Corporations generally have to provide mandatory information within their business letters – this also applies to emails. In order to ensure this, it is recommended to automatically attach them to every sent message. With Advanced Email Signature and Disclaimer, IT administrators of a company can easily create text modules via a web-based interface and adapt them quickly at any time. The product directly accesses the data of the Active Directory so it can automatically integrate individual contact information into the text data. This is done by inserting AD attributes into the signature templates and through a synchronization via LDAP. Advanced Email Signature and Disclaimer subsequently attaches the text automatically to any email that you send.   This eliminates the need for administrators to manually maintain individual signatures. Changes to extension numbers, job positions, or email addresses in the Active Directory immediately are automatically implemented in the email boilerplate. Apart from individual signatures, it is also possible to create group-based signatures in order to insert, for example, general department information.   At the same time, the solution offers companies an elegant opportunity to achieve a uniform corporate design in the signature and disclaimer area. Advanced Email Signature and Disclaimer is also used for marketing and sales purposes: announcements for new products or updates, an upcoming road show or a notice about the company newsletter can be easily attached to emails. HTML-based formats, images or banners can also be used.   “Advanced Email Signature and Disclaimer is another valuable addition to our email security services,” said Oliver Dehning, CEO of Hornetsecurity. “IT administrators will need significantly less effort to maintain obligatory and mandatory email attachments, which allows them to focus more on their core tasks.”

No opportunities for CEO fraud, ransomware and their friends.

Hornetsecurity Advanced Threat Protection closes the email gateway for highly complex and sophisticated attacks

Hanover, 18.08.2016 – Incidents are piling up. These include so-called CEO fraud attacks whereby unknown scammers, masquerading as senior members of staff, seek to arrange funds transfers or to obtain access details to particular accounts, often causing substantial damage to the companies concerned. Encryption Trojans are also being used more and more to attack companies, causing a great deal of direct damage to those affected. In general terms, all of these types of attack are difficult to detect, and manage to get through the majority of commonly-used protection systems unnoticed. Hornetsecurity’s Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) Service now offers a way of providing protection specifically against these types of highly complex and sophisticated attacks. Hornetsecurity ATP will be available from the end of September.   In order to defend against CEO fraud, Hornetsecurity ATP concentrates on identifying groups of people who need specific protection, such as managing directors, authorized signatories and accountants. A number of forensic systems specifically focus on these groups’ email communications, in order to provide the best possible protection. The individual measures taken are as follows.
  • The Intention Recognition System can determine the intention behind an incoming email, i.e. whether it is simply passing on information or whether it relates to a payment request. If the content is determined to be critical, the system generates a warning.
  • Fraud Attempt Analysis checks the authenticity of incoming messages as well as the integrity of metadata and email content, as fraudsters deliberately alter these parameters in order to achieve their objective, namely diverting payments.
  • Identity Spoof Recognition spots when attackers are using false identities or sending emails under someone else’s name, and prevents the message from being delivered.
  • Spy Out Detection intercepts attacks seeking to acquire passwords, company secrets or other information. Hornetsecurity ATP recognizes both known and completely new patterns as soon as these emails come in, blocks them and immediately posts a notification.
  • Feign Facts Identification carries out non-identity-based content analyses to recognize messages that employ fictitious facts to encourage the email recipient to carry out a particular action, such as giving out information.
  • Targeted Attack Detection recognizes attacks targeted at individual persons. These can also be one-off attacks.
Hornetsecurity ATP also closes other loopholes that traditional spam and virus filters are unable to block, as these always require a certain amount of time to react. The service provides protection against ransomware attacks such as Locky, Tesla and Petya, filters out phishing emails and defends against so-called blended threats. Hornetsecurity ATP employs a range of recognition mechanisms in order to accomplish this, making use not only of a sandbox but also of URL rewriting and URL scanning. The “freezing” of suspicious emails is also an integral part of Hornetsecurity ATP.   Swift notification of attack is another crucially important element. Regardless of the nature of the attack, once Hornetsecurity ATP detects a harmful email it immediately sends automatic notification to the customer’s administrator. Somewhat later, an ex-post warning is also made available in case an attack is not detected until after the event, in which case the administrator immediately receives an information email containing the details. Notifications allow companies to make their employees aware of the existence of an attack and to appeal for increased vigilance, as attackers whose efforts using communication channels prove unsuccessful often attempt to achieve their objectives by other means.   “Regardless of what you want to call attacks on senior employees and colleagues in central and key positions, CEO fraud, whaling and spear phishing attacks are extremely sophisticated and are virtually unpreventable using conventional methods”, said Daniel Hofmann, Managing Director of Hornetsecurity. “That’s why we developed Hornetsecurity ATP. And the initial results show how right we were to do so. A number of major customers who have been making partial use of Hornetsecurity ATP on a test basis up to now are expected to conclude contracts with us in the near future.”

Effective and intelligent: the Hornetsecurity Webfilter Connector reliably blocks critical websites and malware

The new security tool controls and monitors access while helping companies enforce company-wide policies

Hornetsecurity has presented a new version of the Webfilter Connector. As part of the proven Webfilter Service, the tool is used for user authentication to the Webfilter Proxy and, depending on the setting, it can block news pages or websites with pornographic content as well as forums or applications such as Skype or MSN Messenger. The new Hornetsecurity solution thus enables the enforcement of pre-defined corporate policies – right down to the user level. Groups can also be formed, allowing you to set up internet usage for different departments. The new Webfilter Connector is now available for download from Hornetsecurity’s control panel.   The dangers of the internet are well known: In addition to malware from spam emails, small and medium businesses (SMBs) are faced with increasing problems from web-based attacks. To effectively protect corporate IT from malware, phishing and other threats, the cloud security provider Hornetsecurity provides, among other things, the Webfilter Service, whose essential component is the new Hornetsecurity Webfilter Connector. To use the Webfilter Service effectively, users must register once at the Connector – then they can securely surf the internet or use internet-based services, so long as their use has been approved by the company IT. The administrators equip the proxy (via which the internet traffic is routed) with appropriate policies. The Connector can either be downloaded directly from the control panel or administrators distribute the software centrally. Installation takes only a few minutes.   Implement corporate policies easily and automatically   The service starts automatically after installation and works quietly in the background. The Connector attaches an individual piece of authentication information to each data packet that is sent towards Webfilter Proxy. Based on this information, the corporate policies can then be enforced – this prevents the users from surfing on blocked websites on which, for example, drive-by downloads are located or employees are using undesirable internet-based programs to exchange data.   Each connector has an authentication code that is individually tailored to the user and preinstalled, so that the user neither has to worry about the setup nor make any entries. The user only has set the preferred browser in advance such that subsequently all inquiries reaching the user are first sent to the proxy and no longer redirected straight onto the internet.
