Definition: What is an opt-out?

Opt-out is the right to object. In many countries, the sending of unsolicited e-mail is authorized in a professional context, provided that the purpose of the e-mail is logical in view of the recipient’s position within the company. However, the recipient must always have the option of easily unsubscribing from a mailing list or emailing.

The notion of opt-out is to be contrasted with that of opt-in.

Applications

As opt-out advertising emails are accepted for companies (not individuals), Hornetsecurity does not consider this type of email as spam.
