Job description details
Intro
Email remains the backbone of global communication and one of the most targeted vectors for cyberattacks. With the rapid advancement of Large Language Models (LLMs), sophisticated, AI-driven attacks have become an increasingly critical threat to enterprises, NGOs, and global institutions.
In our Security Lab, an international team of engineers builds the services that protect over 1.4 billion mailboxes worldwide. We are looking for a Software Engineer to join us in Hannover (List) and help shape the next generation of email security. You will work primarily in Go and Python, shipping services that operate at a massive scale, while collaborating with colleagues across Germany, Spain, France, Canada, Japan, North Macedonia, and the United Kingdom.
Your Job
- Build and Maintain Core Services: Design, develop, test, document, and operate end-to-end backend services for email security, working primarily in Go.
- Develop Advanced Threat Detection: Build scan pipelines, extract complex artifacts from emails for deep analysis, and design next-generation threat detection capabilities for our enterprise customers.
- Optimize at Scale: Improve the platform for performance, scalability, security, and reliability using pragmatic, measurable solutions.
- Leverage AI-Driven Engineering: Be part of a modern engineering culture. Work hand-in-hand with us to transform traditional workflows into AI-driven processes and build a cutting-edge engineering harness.
- Work with Core Technologies: Build and deploy using a focused, modern stack primarily centered around Go, Python, Linux, Redis, and MariaDB, while leveraging AI tools like Claude.
- Ensure Exceptional Quality: Write comprehensive unit, functional, and integration tests to maintain high software standards.
- Collaborate Globally: Ship innovative features in close collaboration with cross-functional teams across multiple time zones. Participate in code reviews, knowledge sharing, and the continuous refinement of our engineering practices.

- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- Technical Foundation: Strong knowledge of Git, version control workflows, and comfortable navigating Linux/Unix environments via the command line.
- Problem-Solving Skills: A highly analytical, practice-oriented mindset with the ability to tackle complex architectural challenges.
- Communication: Professional proficiency in English (written and spoken) and the ability to collaborate effectively in a diverse, international team.

- Experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker).
- Hands-on experience integrating AI-assisted development tools into daily workflows.
- A background or strong personal interest in cybersecurity.
