Managing the certification bodies

Within the context of Secure Cipher Policy Control, you can fine-tune the trust settings for certification bodies. Settings can be adjusted centrally by the administrator on a user or domain basis.

Central TrustChain management

Comprehensive information can be recorded at a glance on the Realtime Threat Report. For example, you can see here which attack vector caused an attempted malware attack (e.g. file attachment, malicious link, fraud) and what sort of attack is involved (e.g. Trojan horse, ransomware, spyware).

QR Code Analyzer

Hornetsecurity’s QR Code Analyzer: To stay one step ahead, Hornetsecurity has developed a feature which does far more than simply scanning QR codes. Our QR Code Analyzer is able to detect QR codes embedded in other images that can re-route to other malicious sites. Attackers may start using this trick to circumvent simple QR code scanning apps.

The QR Code Analyzer can detect QR codes at light speed and can analyze different types, including URLs and texts. It supports all common image types such as GIF, JPEG, PNG and BMP.

URL Malware Control

Checks and secures all Internet addresses including download analysis

URL Malware Control secures all Internet addresses contained in your email communication using the Hornetsecurity web filter. In the process, downloads are also analyzed and secured.

Secure Links

Secure Links protects users from malicious links in emails. It replaces the original link with a rewritten version that goes through Hornetsecurity’s secure web gateway.

If a user clicks on a link, a deep web scan is initiated: The service recursively scans the target site and follows links to look for malicious web resources. The system blocks access to malicious sites and prevents hackers and cybercriminals from being able to access the user’s confidential data or infecting their computer with malware.

Real-time analysis – Threat Defense Engines

The proxy servers analyze data streams in real-time with the Threat Defense Engines and the ATP Sandbox.

Link target check – URL Scanning Engine

Internet addresses in email attachments are also checked using the URL Scanning Engine. An attached document is left in its original form and only the target of the contained links is checked.

Received emails or file attachments can contain links that may lead to websites that offer malware-infested downloads. URL Malware Control protects you and your company against targeted and blended attacks and digital espionage, and notifies you of any direct attacks.

ATP Sandboxing

Dynamic analyses

The ATP Sandbox Engine is used to perform dynamic analyses. Email file attachments are opened in a number of different secure system environments, whereby their behavior is analyzed, logged and evaluated.

Real-time alerts

If malware is detected during the analysis, you will be informed, immediately and automatically, via a real-time alert.

Quarantine

The email will either be delivered or quarantined, depending on the result of the evaluation of the behavior analysis.

Reporting function

Thanks to a transparent reporting function, information on the dynamic analysis and the evaluation of the static malware analysis can be accessed centrally.

ATP-Sandboxing offers you protection against targeted and blended attacks. If, for example, malware is disguised and infiltrated as an email attachment, Hornetsecurity ATP subjects these threats to comprehensive analyses and observes their behavior. Create an “allow list” and “deny list” with just one click

In Outlook, with just one click you can decide which senders you want to put on your personal deny list or from which senders emails should always be delivered (allow list).

If you do not want to receive emails from one or several specific senders, you can put these on your personal deny list. With just one click directly in your in-box the selected senders can be added to the deny list to prevent emails from the same sender from being delivered to you in future. If an email from a generally unobjectionable sender lands in Quarantine by mistake, thus appearing in the spam report, the “allow list” function can be used. Emails from senders on your Whitelist will always be delivered to your in-box in future.

Threat detection through in-depth analysis

The multi-stage in-depth analysis and filter systems detect new threats and attacks.

Threat Blocking & Threat Intelligence

Incoming emails are blocked (rejected) if they are identified with a high degree of certainty as undesirable while the data connection with the Hornetsecurity servers is still in place. In Threat Blocking, a statistical 99% of attempts to deliver spam are reliably detected and averted. The subsequent analysis by Threat Intelligence guarantees you a detection rate of 99.99% for spam and 99.9% for viruses.

Spam and Malware Protection is continuously developed and optimized by the Hornetsecurity Security Lab. Using AI-based algorithms, machine learning and other technologies, the detection mechanisms are constantly being upgraded so that your company security is always a step ahead of potential attackers. You are provided with a transparent picture of the type, frequency and objective of all intercepted attacks.

If an incoming email (e.g. phishing or spam mail) constitutes a threat, the attack is immediately detected by the multi-stage filter systems of 365 Total Protection. Unwanted emails are directly rejected by the Threat Blocking function or detected in later analyses by Threat Intelligence and sent straight to Quarantine. In both cases, these emails will not be delivered to your mailbox.

Compliance Filter

Extended filter functions and filter regulations

The Compliance Filter greatly increases the range of filter functions, whereby incoming and outgoing email communication can be automatically checked by applying self-defined filter regulations.

Searching the email body and header by regular expression

Using the filter functions, the email header and the email body can be searched for certain patterns using regular expressions.

Extended filter for subject and address of sender

With the help of the extended filter, certain email fields such as the subject or the sender can be searched using regular expressions.

Outgoing emails: BCC, redirecting, routing & automatic notification

With regard to outgoing emails, where the filter criterion is met a blind copy (BCC) can be added and the sender notified. The message can also be redirected or the route changed.

Many procedures for incoming emails: Rejection, redirection, spam/virus & BCC

Incoming emails that meet the criteria of the Compliance Filter can be rejected, redirected, marked as spam or virus or have a BCC added.

The Compliance Filter comes into play due to the individual definition of search terms and the resulting activities in various contexts. Incoming emails can, for example, be automatically categorized as clean, spam or virus, depending on the keywords that appear in the text. Emails that exceed a certain size can be redirected. Messages that include the word “application” in the subject line, for example, can be automatically redirected to the HR department.

Fine-grained filters and categorization

Content Control offers fine-grained setting options for the precise categorization and filtering of email attachments.

Centrally managed

The receipt of certain file formats can be centrally defined and monitored for the entire company.

Automatic quarantine or delivery without file attachment including notification

Emails with unwanted file attachments are placed directly under quarantine or alternatively forwarded to the recipient without the attachment. The recipient will be informed of this at the same time.

Simple policy amendments by the administrator

Where necessary, an administrator can grant the user access to blocked data upon request. Where it is necessary for a user group to receive certain attachments, a separate group profile can be created and maintained for this purpose on the Global Security Dashboard.

Content Control protects your email communication from receiving or sending unwanted or unauthorized file attachments in keeping with your company policy. When running Content Control, umbrella terms and categories (e.g., .docmacro or .executable) may be blocked, for example in the default group (mailboxes that are not allocated to any particular group). For a department such as Marketing, however, the receipt of media files and macros can, on the other hand, be necessary for daily business: In this respect, one can create, for example, a group for the Marketing department and adjust the settings in Content Control so that only potentially dangerous, e.g. executable, file formats are blocked for this group.

Infomail Handling

No more newsletters or ad mails in your inbox

The Infomail filter prevents the direct delivery of emails that have been classified as newsletters and informative mail.

Daily overview list for users

Thanks to the daily transparent report, users can decide for themselves which relevant newsletter they want to read. If users want to view certain newsletters immediately in the inbox, these can be put on the reports simply by clicking on the Whitelist.

With the help of Infomail Handlings, the inboxes or smartphones of your users will no longer be flooded with newsletters and ad mails. Users are no longer distracted by the constant arrival of unimportant emails, thus making it easier for them to keep track of relevant business matters.

Email Live Tracking enables you to monitor your entire email communication in real-time.

Status and encryption information

As part of the Email Live Tracking function, you will receive detailed information regarding the encryption method and the classification of incoming and outgoing Emails as well as the reason for the respective classification.

Individual filter and delivery options

Using extensive filter options, Live Tracking helps you find specific emails quickly and easily. Quarantined mails can be released by the user directly from the Company Security Management feature and delivered. Activities such as Black- or Whitelisting can also be performed.

Email Live Tracking with user-defined settings offers users a complete overview of all Emails addressed to them.
